Hapag-Lloyd charter vessel CANADA EXPRESS spotted at Fairview Cove today. File photo shows her alongside there on 12 July 2010 strangely berthed Port Side to,seldom seen at this facility.Diving tender alongside indicates a maintenance issue however. Built in 2006 by Koyo Dockyard,Japan. IMO 9307023.GRT 66,462;DWT 66,660. LOA 280m B 40.m Draught 14.2m.Registered in Hong Kong.Call Sign:VRBW4. A regular caller at Halifax since last year when her previous name was changed from OOCL DUBAI.

CFAV FIREBIRD YTR561

Naval fireboat CFAV FIREBIRD YTR561 proceeding to the DREA barge in the Bedford Basin.A familiar site to residents along the shore of the Bedford Basin is the shuttle runs made by the naval tugs and the fireboat several times a day ferrying personnel to and from the DREA Laboratory Barge in Birch Cove.This service has been going on since the 195os and will I assume continue for some time in the future.A break in the fireboats' crews boredom I am sure.

CONTAINERSHIPS ON MAY 4th 2011

Containerships calling at the Port of Halifax on 4th May were the OOCL/Hapag-Lloyd vessel VIETNAM EXPRESS (ex OOCL ITALY) and the ZIM Container Line's ZIM CALIFORNIA.

Due to fog we are presenting photos taken earlier,Vietnam Express shown berthing at Fairview Cove terminal on 9th of May last year and ZIM California departing from Halterm on 29th July 2009. Both vessels are regular callers at the Port of Halifax.
