OOCL OAKLAND

OOCL OAKLAND appears on AIS alongside the Fairview Cove terminal today 29 June 2011. Since the fog prevails it seemed appropriate to post this shot of her just after clearing harbour at Pleasant Shoal bouy and leaving YVT scrambling for the camera as she was enveloped again by the fog bank I was groping my way inbound through on 2nd August 2009.

AFL NEW ENGLAND

Anchors aweigh,as AFL NEW ENGLAND gets away from Anchorage No 9 in the Bedford Basin,Halifax on June 24th 2011.
Outbound from the Bedford Basin,but not going far. AFL NEW ENGLAND underway for Pier 25 Halifax,on June 24th 2011. She has been languishing for a spell in the Basin since arrival (See earlier post.) awaiting her first orders for cargo for the Boston States on the newly established feeder service between Halifax and New England (Boston and Portland).

The "Last Corvette: HMCS SACKVILLE moved to her Summer berth at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic this past week. One of the most popular attractions on the Halifax waterfront,Sackville is the last WW2 Flower Class Corvette extant. Bedford Basin Activity June 17th 2011


Evening of 17th June sees Hapag-Lloyd's PAX Service containership KOBE EXPRESS inbound for the Fairview Cove terminal with the OOCL KAOHSIUNG in the West berth at the Ceres terminal. Both vessels are regular callers at Halifax. The OOCL vessel serves on the Far East/North American service via Suez.

HALIFAX EXPRESS SERVICE START-UP

American Feeder Line's newly aquired vessel AFL NEW ENGLAND anchored in the Bedford Basin on a rainy June 14th evening.
American Feeder Lines announced a new Express Service between New England and Halifax with chartered 700teu vessel "AFL New England" arriving at Halifax on June 14th 2011. The servive will provide a cotainer link to the Port of Halifax between Boston,Mass. and Portland,Maine thus giving New England access to the 17 major lines currently calling at Halifax.

Bulk Gypsum Activity at Halifax

Barkald alongside at National Gypsum,Bedford Basin (File Photo 2007) and below,Alice Oldendorff outbound at Halifax this past September.Recent activity at the National Gypsum dock this week has seen three bulkcarriers calling at the facility in the Bedford Basin. First of the trio was BARKALD which had for some time been at the Ocean Terminals piers undergoing maintenance.Second caller was another regular,ALICE OLDENDORFF alongside on June 9th. And,the third was also a regular port visitor CSL ATLAS alongside the Wright's Cove dock on the 10th.
