JS KASHIMA TV3508 anchored for bunkers in Dartmouth Cove,Halifax on 10th August 2011. Kashima is a 5,400 ton purpose built training ship of the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force on a training cruise to N.America visiting ports on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. The training squadron of three ships departed Halifax on the 14th August with a sailpast from the Bedford Basin led by a Royal Canadian Navy frigate.

HMS DAUNTLESS D33 Type 45 Air Defence destroyer alongside at Jrtty November Bravo for bunkers on 28th July 20111. Her sister was here last November for a brief stop over,both calls unscheduled and unannounced. A large vessel in comparison to our DDG/DDH destroyers,weighing in close to a WW2 light cruiser. LOA 500ft Beam 70 ft. Draught 24 feet. Displacement 7,500 tons light/8,100 tons full load. Machinery Twin screw/Royals Royce Gas turbines = 29+ knots.

Tidy little general cargo ship FRIENDSHIP spent several days offloading at Ocean Terminals before moving into the Bedford Basin to anchor. Photographed here on the 28th of July she bunkered later and sailed on July 30th. Built in 2007 by Hangchang Shipbuilding,Linhi,China.

EAGLE HAS LANDED

USCGS EAGLE ex KM HORST WESSEL arrived at Halifax from St John's yesterday 14th July 2011. The former Nazi (German Navy) training ship was the third of three Gorch Fock class vessels built by Blohm und Voss,Hamburg in the 1930's.She was commissioned by Adolf Hitler in 1936,named after a Nazi Party member. She was awarded to US post- war as war reparation payment and commissioned in the Coast Guard in 1946 as EAGLE. Call Sign:NRCB.
