LONDON EXPRESS called at Halifax for the last time in 2011 on New Years Eve securing alongside at Fairview Cove early in the AM. Earlier file photo (June 11,2011) shows her outbound in the Narrows passing Pier 9.

A dreary 28th of December 2011 saw the first call at Halifax of the containership RIO DE JANEIRO EXPRESS depicted alongside at the Fairview Cove terminal. With the funnel markings of Hapag-Lloyd the vessel is a SeaSpan charter (Note absence of Hapag's large hull lettering ).
Owned and managed by SEASPAN Corp,Vancouver,Canada.

Boxing Day saw the containership OOCL HONG KONG alongside at the Fairview Cove terminal ,Bedford Basin the file photo above was taken early morning of 4 May 2008 and shows her arrival for the first time at Halifax entering the Basin at the Narrows bridge.

ORSULA Aground

This from Internet Dec 15.11.The 200 meter long, 34168 dwt freighter Orsula went aground on the St. Lawrence River near Becancour, Quebec, Canada. The Orsula had become disabled after a rudder failure causing the bulk carrier to go aground. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution
released. The Orsula was proceeding only in ballast at the time of the
incident. Reports states the Orsula should be refloated after a salvage has
been submitted by the owners.

GSF GRAND BANKS

Quite some time since we've seen this big gal at Halifax. YVT had quite a bit to do during her extensive fitting-out here shortly after her build at Saint John (SJSL) back in the eighties.
She was origionally buily as BOW DRILL 3 for Husky-Bow Valley Offshore Drilling Ltd.

HARBOUR OF REFUGE

Containership LONDON EXPRESS which normally would enter the Bedford Basin and berth directly at Fairview Cove, proceed to anchor with the assistance of Atlantic Larch and Atlantic Oak (astern) due to the high winds experienced during the afternoon of 8th December 2011.
Products tanker ALGOSCOTIA anchored off Rockingham in the Bedford Basin,Halifax during the passage of an intense low over the region on 8th December 2011. Wind gusts of 100kmh were expected during the rapid advance of the low.
